Blake Babies Sunburn 2022 Vinyl Reissue

Image

American Laundromat Records:

We are stoked to reissue "Sunburn" on vinyl for the first time in over 30 years! This exclusive reissue is limited to 2,000 units worldwide.

Reissue artwork prepared by Aaron Tanner at Melodic Virtue from the original Mammoth art. Our good friend Sean Glonek at SRG studios handled remastering, Levi Seitz cut metal, and the fine folks at Furnace pressed the vinyl. It looks and sounds amazing! We are very proud of this reissue and hope you enjoy it.

New Album Details - Blood - Release Due May 2021, Orders Available Now

American Laundromat Records are set to release Juliana's new album Blood on May 14, 2021. Fabulous!

There's a single out now. Here's Mouthful Of Blood:

Open SoundCloud media

American Laundromat Records:

“Blood” is Juliana’s 19th solo studio album of originals, and a deep dive into the dark side. The album is a brutal and critical look at modern human psychology and behavior; at personal and societal sickness. “I think these songs are a reaction to how seriously and negatively a lot of people have been affected by the past four years,” says Juliana. “But it’s fun, musically. There’s a lot of playing around. I didn’t really have a plan when I started this project.”

ALR's order page has more details (the album was recorded mostly at Juliana's home into her laptop and Jed Davis’ home in Connecticut).

There's also more JH quotes ("Sophisticated but catchy. Challenging but danceable.")

New Album Announced - Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police

Image

Juliana is releasing another covers tribute album, following the success of her 2018 tribute to Olivia Newton-John.

Scheduled for November 15, 2019 via American Laundromat Records, it's titled "Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police."

The first song has already been released. Here's De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da:

Open SoundCloud media

Juliana:

With "Juliana Hatfield Sings The Police" I am continuing the project that I started last year with my "Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John" album. I hope to continue to go deep into covering artists that were important to me in my formative years. The songs I’ve chosen seem to resonate in the present moment. “Rehumanize Yourself”, “Landlord”, and “Murder By Numbers” explore ugly kinds of nationalism, abuses of power, and the mendacity of large swaths of the ruling class. And then there are the timeless, relatable psychodramas: “Every Breath You Take”, “Can’t Stand Losing You”, “Canary In A Coalmine”. In the Police, each player’s style was so distinctive, accomplished and unique that I didn’t even attempt to match any of it; for anyone to try and play drums like Stewart Copeland would be a thankless, pointless task that is bound to fail. Instead, I simplified and deconstructed, playing a lot of the drums myself, in my rudimentary, caveman style. Chris Anzalone (Roomful Of Blues) played the rest of the drums. Ed Valauskas (the Gravel Pit) and I each played about half of the bass parts, while I did all the guitars and keyboards. I listened to a lot of the Police when I was preparing and making this album, and their recordings are as refreshing and exciting as ever. I hope that my interpretations of these songs can inspire people to keep loving the Police like I did, and still do.

Blake Babies "Innocence And Experience" 2019 Vinyl Reissue and T-shirts

Image

American Laundromat Records, announcing a return of the fabulous 1993 Blake Babies compilation album:

We are beyond excited to reissue this fantastic Blake Babies collection on vinyl. It's always been a favorite and we worked with John, Freda and Juliana on every aspect of the reissue.

Our good friend and long-time collaborator Sean Glonek at SRG Studios handled remastering, and Carl Saff in Chicago cut metal. Vinyl was pressed by hand at Burlington Record Plant in Burlington, VT. The artwork has been recreated from the original Mammoth art but with a little twist thanks to the skill and creativity of award-winning designer, Aaron Tanner of Melodic Virtue. We also included the liner notes and photos from the original CD booklet as a newly-designed inner sleeve. We're very proud of this reissue and hope you enjoy it.

The scheduled release date is March 2019 and orders are being taken now at:

https://www.alr-music.com/collections/out-now/products/blake-babies-innocence-and-experience-vinyl-reissue

There are also t-shirts available at the same link. American Laundromat say:

The official Blake Babies T-Shirt design is from a drawing John Strohm did 20+ years ago. Our good friend Lonny Unitus, who is an amazing illustrator, recreated John's drawing for screenprinting purposes and added the Nicely, Nicely typography. It's an exclusive design and will only be available for a limited time.

Olivia Newton-John Tribute Album - New Vinyl Pressing, Colours, Alternative Cover Art

Image

American Laundromat Records:

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Juliana's Olivia Newton-John tribute, we're doing a very special 500 unit LP pressing with alternative cover art and cool vinyl colors. Please note in addition to the Cream and Pink/Purple Splash available on our website, there are 100 translucent clear vinyl that will only be available at select independent record shops.

Orders are being taken now with shipping anticipated for February 14, 2019. Ordering info and details of the indie shops at:

https://www.alr-music.com/collections/out-now/products/juliana-hatfield-sings-olivia-newton-john

The album only came out in April so it's unclear which calendar they have at ALR for their "one-year anniversary," but this is some pretty vinyl and lovely artwork nonetheless!

On the subject of the ON-J tribute, it is now owned by John Farrar, who wrote many of the songs and produced their original recordings:

Juliana Hatfield Announces New Album Weird and Shares First Single – American Laundromat Records

New album info time!

It's called Weird and is due for release on January 18, 2019.

Here's the first single - It's So Weird:

Open SoundCloud media

From American Laundromat Records blog post:

Freda Love Smith (Blake Babies, Sunshine Boys) and Todd Philips (Lemonheads, The Juliana Hatfield Three) each played drums on multiple songs while Hatfield played all of the other instruments (and some additional drums).

Album Bio:

Laura Fisher has written liner notes as an "Album Bio", which is effectively the first review. An excerpt:

Why wouldn’t you want to block out the world? Hatfield asks us. Outside the home are people who misread your facial expressions (“Staying In”), whose gestures of love feel like efforts to possess you (“It’s So Weird”), who drag you into a vortex of lies and gaslighting (“Paid to Lie”), and who have allowed every last shred of human experience to be commodified, from dignity, religion, and privacy to fake IDs and opioids (“Everything’s For Sale”). Outside the glowing orb of independence are other people’s demands, their power plays, their lies and misinterpretations. Who needs it?

The Safes - A Tribute To Juliana Hatfield Seven-Inch – American Laundromat Records

Image

New covers of Juliana's Universal Heart-beat and I See You are now available to order.

American Laundromat Records:

Chicago's The Safes are thrilled to release a 2-song, 7” tribute to Juliana Hatfield; one of their favorite artists. The Safes tracked this single with the one and only Steve Albini and, to turn this up to 11, The Safes asked their friends Ted Ansani and Mike Zelenko of legendary power pop trio Material Issue to be the rhythm section for this recording. Give it listen. These songs are as good as songs get -- The Safes saw no reason in trying to improve upon perfection and just had fun rockin' these classics.

Exclusive pressing on red vinyl. Original artwork by Nicole Anguish at Daykamp Creative. Only 500 copies exist. All 45's include a digital download card.

Juliana:

I'm so tickled by The Safes' joyful, lovable versions of my two songs! I think they really captured the essence of what the songs were and still are trying to say which is that there is always hope to be had

New Album Announced - Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John

Image

Juliana has announced her new album of Olivia Newton-John covers. Marvellous!

It will be released on April 13, 2018, via American Laundromat Records, titled "Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John".

Juliana:

I have never not loved Olivia Newton-John. Her music has brought me so much pure joy throughout my life. I loved her when I was a child and I love her still. Her voice and her positive energy and her melodies have stood the test of time and they give me as much pleasure now as they ever did. Listening to her is an escape into a beautiful place. She has inspired me so much personally and I just wanted to give something back; to share some of these tremendous songs, reinterpreted, with love, by me

American Laundromat Records:

One dollar from the sale of every album will be donated to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre (ONJ Centre), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing patients with cancer access to leading medical treatment, breakthrough research, and the best in wellness and supportive care.
