In 'Bed' - with Juliana Hatfield - Punk Girl Diaries

Lene Cortina, writing at Punk Girl Diaries with a review of last weekend's Bed livestream:

Internet shows like this can deliver those little things that are often lost or inaudible at a traditional show; guitar tuning, commentary and asides that an audience is not always privy to or the words get lost in the space between the artist and PA system. What artists maybe don’t realise is that the audience knows pretty well how you sound singing, but we also love to learn how you talk, and what do you say?

Lene goes on to account some of Juliana's between song chat.

Juliana, discussing "Bed" in an interview with Brett Milano for Boston Herald ahead of today's acoustic livestream:

...I realized that the only time I feel power is when I’m making music. So it was an explosion of frustration, but also an abandonment of my past life and the start of doing whatever the hell I wanted to. I can have loud annoying feedback at the beginning of a song, I can stack together five vocal takes that don’t really fit together, and nobody is going to stop me.

The interview includes a bit more about what to expect with the new "shockingly dark" Blood album, and that the next covers project remains likely to focus on R.E.M.

Upcoming Acoustic Livestream Performance #2 - Bed - January 23, 2021

After the Become What You Are extravaganza, Juliana has announced that there will be another full LP acoustic performance from Q Division Studios on Saturday January 23, 2021 at 4pm EST. (The same hour as before so that’s 9pm GMT / 10pm CET.)

She’s chosen 1998’s Bed, a big fan favourite.

This will be the 2nd time Juliana has played it in its entirety, following her 20th anniversary full band performance in May 2018 at The Burren in Somerville. (photos from that show are here)

Once again this will be a pay what you want show, available free to view on Q Division’s YouTube channel.

Kirkland Ciccone : Hall Of Fame: Bed by Juliana Hatfield

Kirkland Ciccone, from a blog post on 1998's Bed album:

Of course I bought it. I buy anything with her name on it. Then, ignoring college, I sat out in George Square with my CD Walkman, giving dirty looks to any pigeon that might try it with me. And I listened. I listened from start to finish. I listened through a slight rain burst. I listened and loved what I heard. It wasn’t as polished as previous albums, but it was undeniably honest, especially in the case of Sellout, a UK bonus track. Sellout is scabrously honest: “It’s not a sellout if nobody bought it.”
